…that I thought I would wander into Kerry’s street and check out the lizards. Found this delicious entree in the neighbors’ yard.
It put up a good fight. I am 4 foot tall so it was a generous brunch.
Don’t we all need a change in our brunch venue from time to time? Especially when wearing our bright white feathers and a burnt orange beak. I had just come back from grocery shopping when I spotted this great egret in the cul-de-sac. Ran in to get my camera and voila!
Hope you are all enjoyed brunch on this beautiful sunny day in the sub tropics. The egret normally lives at the containment pond at the end of our street.
Wonderful snaps! Amazing what these big birds will gulp down! I’ve watched Green Herons, Egrets, and Great Blue Herons in the Maumee River many times in the same ritual.

This was fascinating because the lizard was putting up a fight. After that I went to the containment pond and found a great blue and a red tailed hawk. Nature is wonderful!

Thank you Liben. It was such a lucky shot but I stalked him with my camera until he ate brunch.

Poor lizard aside, that’s a pretty awesome sight to capture! And something I’ll never get since squirrels don’t eat other animals (And I really hope I never capture the other way around!)

Gosh no – I hope you never see the other way around! We have so many baby squirrels right now that I have to travel at 5 mph to get out of the street.

Thank you, Mags. Couldn’t believe my luck. No one in the street apart from me and the egret (and former lizard). 🦎

You were certainly luckier than the (former) lizard.

I love seeing large birds. We see a few of these but usually in tones of grey. They live in a swampy area behind our development. The area was once in the top ten contaminated landfll sites in the USA. Now, it is cleaned up and a lot of wildlife lives around it. Great photo Kerry, thanks for sharing.

I love, love, love stories like that! It is possible for us to learn from our mistakes. I saw a program about Chernobyl and was fascinated that life was slowly returning. Thank you.

I know, but I’m the person who if I could cry would cry if I mistakenly stepped on an ant.

I used to be like that until I moved to the country, then Africa and now a sub tropical swamp. It is me or the cockroaches. 😁

You come first. But ugh. Double, triple ugh. I’m glad I don’t live there. I’d seriously be in tears every day for the poor creatures.
You live in a swamp now? Is it really pretty?

It is really pretty. Actually it’s a forest in a swamp in the outskirts of Houston. There are so many critters…you might like this family.
