These are African grey crowned cranes – although it was silent I imagined I could hear tribal drums.
So many of us start a courtship with a dance. I met Teddy at my friend’s raucous 21st birthday party and one dance was all it took. Skip to 38 years later and we just spent a fabulous weekend visiting Franklin Safari Park, just north of College Station. We rarely took vacations together lately because of our sick elderly cat. I was desperate to see and touch animals because the house is so quiet and this was just perfect. Many more amazing photographs to come.
This morning I watched a lonely crane and felt a kinship and here you are, likening that courtship to yours some 38 years later. Mine is 28 years later. Like you, I too stay at home with my four rescue kitties. I fear they would be traumatized in my absence. 🤗

That is the strangest synchronicity! We were happy to leave our various groups of rescue cats with good pet sitters until the Last Cat. There is a sad pleasure with having a really clean house and able to travel whenever we want but I miss fur babies.

I have four resident kitties, four in my office park and my house is a feeding and watering station for 5 nocturnal kitties. I hear what you say here. 🤗

Oh my goodness – I think you have fallen into the crazy cat lady category! But well done for helping all those kitties. 🐯

Hi Kerry and Kavitha,
It seems that dancing might indeed help to increase the longevity of marriage. May your marital bliss continue in perpetuity!
It is wonderful to know that Kerry and Teddy have had some time off, and that you finally got a chance to be really close to some animals other than your own cats.
Yes, dance is indeed important in courtship. Had my mother not been the chosen Swan Princess to dance in a school drama similar to that of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, then my parents would not have met and I would not exist. You are very welcome to learn about how my parents met at my very special post entitled “Khai & Khim: For Always and Beyond Goodbye”, available at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2019/08/31/khai-khim-for-always-and-beyond-goodbye/
Happy November to you and your family as well as your cats!

Thank you so much! Dance makes me feel better, even watching it on TV. Teddy and I still have the occasional waltz in the living room.

It’s really the Bunny-Teddy waltz. That is his pet name for me.

HaHaHa! I like that. 🙂
My mother called me “my little white rabbit” or “my small jade bunny” as her term of endearment, as you will find out why in my said post.

It’s a beautiful story, Kerry. There was magic and proof of it is that you’re still together all of these years later.

Thank you very much, Rob. We are stubborn and lazy which makes divorce too much trouble…😀

I have no animals. Perhaps one day soon. On the flip side you can go on holidays without having to worry about them and also their daily care.

I am not sure we will get any more animals but we have some adopted wild animals, including a new tiger in India.

We had one in Cambodia who recently died at age 21 on a reserve. There will be a sad blog to come…
