WTH is on the chimney?

There was a huge clatter on the chimney after a thunderstorm. Teddy and I looked at each other – WTH is that? Sometimes a mockingbird sings noisily sweetly or a mourning dove coos down the chimney but there was silence…apart from the clatter.

Black vultures have no voice and make a strange grunting noise. This pair were just enjoying their lookout.

A lovely spooky moment as we approach Halloween!

      1. We don’t have of those here. I do miss wrens and robins. I don’t recall Harriers in Scotland. The Bluejay started shrieking the other day and a beautiful Cooper’s Hawk had landed on the tree in front of me.

      2. Hawks are gorgeous aren’t they? We have regular jays here and I love them! You would have had harriers in Scotland; they are rare but there ๐Ÿ˜‰ Isn’t it funny, the weird things we notice ๐Ÿ˜‰

      3. I really prefer hawks to eagles but both are magnificent. When we visited Abu Dhabi, I had the chance to hold someone’s beautiful falcon on my arm (with gauntlet). Her name was Pala.

      1. Reminds me: I used to live very high off the Hudson River such that raptors would soar over my home. One day I was oblivious on the patio that did not face the river. That patio was over a low hanging roof – on which a turkey vulture landed. Honest to Gawd, right by my head. I live to tell the story.

    1. I wish I could have used them to vote yesterday. We were all jam packed in a small room…anyone would think there wasn’t a pandemic! BTW, they are really quite lovely. They were preening each other on the chimney. ๐Ÿ’•

  1. Every now and then I see vultures on roofs in my nieghborhood. It’s really amazing when they spread their wings to catch the sun. The wingspan of our variety is huge.
