I just wish to send my personal greetings to all who serve and to all veterans here in the USA and in the United Kingdom.
The photograph above is of my dad; a Gordon Highlander who was captured at St Valery-en-Caux, France in 1940. He spend the remainder of the war years as a POW in Stalag IXG (Muhlhausen) Thuringia in the east of Germany until they were liberated by US troops in the very last days of the war. Dad passed at the grand age of 93 in August 2012. Below are the medals awarded to him that I keep with lots of other interesting memorabilia – stories for another day.
This a copy of a post by my husband on his LinkedIn page. I can add nothing more to this tribute than say that it brought a tear to my eye. May he rest in peace.
A great tribute to a man whose memory is cherished!

So the heritage lives on…

My husband was adopted but nurture has been significant. I became the daughter they never had. Love is all that matters. 💕

Absolutely so, and heritage is not necessarily biological. I have an adopted son, and his wife reports to me that he quotes my husband and me without even noticing it.

My parents in law were hoarders… Despite the piles of junk and outdated food, I managed to find the important items in their house. I even found the telegram to say he was MIA, initially. I can only imagine what went through his mother’s mind.

I don’t know how anyone dealt with that, and in some cases they never found out what happened to the person missing! 😦 😦

Thank you so much, Gail. They walked the POWS from France to Germany, then they put them on cattle trucks to the camp which was on a salt mine.

Thank you, Peggy. We recently had a pandemic sort out and found the medals. Even sadder we found the telegram to say he was MIA. But there was a great outcome!

Thank you, Kally. I can’t take credit as my husband wrote this originally but I will pass on your comment to him. He and his father reflect each other’s kindness. ❤️
