In olden days I would have been a storyteller, wandering from village to village, sharing my tales of the world. I am intensely curious about almost everything and notice small details. Chatty Kerry is my domain name and it is very accurate. My Irish Nana used to say that I must have kissed the Blarney Stone and I can hear her voice saying to my mother, “The child hasn’t stopped talking all day!” It must have been so bad that she couldn’t even bear to say my name! I have had an interesting life, not always pleasant, but have had the chance to travel extensively both for leisure and work. Even when the destination was not desirable, my curiosity allows me to see something special everywhere. ‘Postcards from Kerry’ is under construction, so please bear with me as I try to design the website with not enough technical knowledge. Enjoy!

      1. I haven’t started seeing the teasers yet. I am thinking it will begin again in January. I spent a few months binge reading the books a couple years ago, and though killing off John Snow was unforgivable, I remain a big fan of the show.

      2. David Benioff’s wife (Amanda Peet) has said she has considered divorcing him because he killed off Jon Snow. I went off the actor after he complained that everyone just commented about his good looks and not his ‘acting ability’. Bah!

  10. Greetings Kerry. I find it interesting how often things feel serendipitous. I just found a lovely message from you this very day on my blog, Quantum Hermit. As I always do, when someone stops by and is kind enough to say hello, I like wandering over to take a look see.

    I found some very interesting commonalities. For instance, while I’m not an official Texan, I lived there for the first 8 years of my marriage. My husband, the Mr. Quantum of Quantum Hermit, was born and raised in Texas. So, if I’m reading your tags right, you’ve a connection to Texas? Then, as I began exploring, I find that you are quite enthralled with Game of Thrones. I’ve not yet seen the series, nor read the books, but it’s been on my radar for quite a few years. We just don’t have television – in the sense of network and cable. But we do have Netflix, and I’ve wanted to begin watching the series. In fact, we recently have finished a rather long series, and we are about to begin splitting the incoming discs – alternating, so to speak. I get to watch something one week, and Q gets the next week. I was hoping to begin with Game of Thrones, so I certainly will learn about the characters from your posts. I find the way you write about the series very interesting, making it personal, and identifying with characteristics within your own life and self.

    All of this is to say, it’s nice meeting you, and I’m glad you stopped by to say hello. 🙂

    1. Hi Fimnora, that’s the nicest greeting I have ever had – thank you! Game of Thrones is addictive and is really quite violent at times but as you can see from all my geeky followers – we love it!!! I was born in San Francisco to a Hispanic Dad and Irish mum, but brought up in Scotland by accident… I now live in Texas, probably permanently, because I married a Scottish geologist who is also now American. I later discovered that my paternal Grandpa worked at Spindletop and some generations were named after Sam Houston – so I have a strong connection to TX! My Spanish side were conquistadors who founded the San Francisco mission but if you met me you would think I was a Scandinavian with a Scottish accent. We are all the same really. Thank you so much for all your lovely compliments. I have written for years but rarely for pleasure and WordPress has been a revelation. Facebook is not for me, nor Twitter, nor Instagram. I look forward to our next visit and hope you enjoy my finale! K x

        Addictive is my middle name, and I can usually be seen viewing things like Sons of Anarchy, Hell On Wheels, The Walking Dead, any CSI, or like programs. I don’t have a problem at all with violence on the screen, or in a book.

        I’ve just gotten back online after the holiday. It’s rather a big deal in our household.
        Now back to the business of my WordPress life. 🙂

Oh, btw, I’ve since watched Game of Thrones, and awaiting the last season, and am watching it again with Mr. Quantum since we relented to watch it, and as I knew he would, he’s completely taken by the thrilling adventures of GoT folk. I’m definitely buying the series, because I know it will be something we’re going to watch at least once a year. We have what we call Wheel Movies, and we can definitely fit it in somewhere given 365 days to do it. 🙂

        I’m catching up on all my blog mail, better late than never, since my laptop was in hospital.

      3. I hope you are better now? They have been repeating the episodes on cable while we await the finale but I wasn’t sure if I could take the excitement right now. I am tapering off medication right now so a bit wobbly mentally. I read that they are making a prequel, 1000 years before, starring Naomi Watts. Hurrah!!!

  14. I have a theory. A theory of irony. Donald Trump will not be President, because he is the ice cream equivalent of “flavor of the week.” What is fun about Mr. Trump is the seem thing that is fun about William Shatner, HE IS IN ON THE JOKE. He knows it, the people – most people – know it on a subconscious level. The only ones who don’t get it are the TV reporters.

    … and I’m going to make a rare confession here. As a child, I was called Yakkie because I was always talking and asking questions. I HATED that name and occasionally my older sister will still let it slip.

    1. It is so lovely to meet you at last, Su. Both hurricanes have left us all a bit shell-shocked. On a drive to work yesterday, I passed street after street of houses with all of their furniture on the curb for removal. We always survive, however, and sometimes learn lessons about our humanity. My headaches are making me tardy at the moment so forgive me…😘

      2. The headaches have stopped – yay! It will be a very slow recovery here but neighbors are being incredibly generous and church groups are helping to clear our the flooded debris. One of my friends has most of her neighbors living in her house with sheets for privacy – amazing!

  50. Hi Kerry – you may remember me as the straight ‘man’ to our canteen double act in the late 80’s/ early 90’s.? I’m wrapped in a duvet with Covid and so far doing OK as also thrice vaccinated. For some reason, maybe my life was flashing before my eyes, I thought of you and yours and saw your writings. The benefit of having known you is I can read them with your voice in my head though I’m sure your travels will have altered your accent. I will follow your lovely blog and it’s been lovely to find you.

    Nuns and damnation ? Conquistadors too ? Luckily, my two Irish grans had an answer to all that, lots of, mostly unrepeatable, but the one landed with me from birth told me her family had to leave Spain.
    Confirmed, recently, via a surprise DNA test – under the Christmas tree . Irish, of course, Scottish, also freely acknowledged,
    North African and Middle Eastern ? As in had to leave Spain…
    Always believe your Irish gran.

    Internet slower than ever, as the rain buckets down, and the builders, as usual, haven’t turned up, or phoned, or emailed., impossible to leave the house – no signal for miles. and I might miss them. .. ..
