Back to my roots

New hair, Topshop Dress, Ralph Lauren Denim jacket

As a treat to myself, I went to a salon to have my hair dyed. I read all the reviews, chose Aveda color and booked the appointment. I mentioned that my hair was very difficult to color but she said she ‘loved a challenge’… When I was in the chair, I asked what shade # she was using and she assured me it was an 8 Ash – which is medium to dark blonde.

She went off to start someone else’s hair and I thought “my hair is going dark” – sometimes the porous gray soaks up all the color. I could have interrupted her but I thought I would just go with the flow – part of my new evolution (kinder, patient). When it was washed out, I could see the perplexity in her face. She asked me what I thought of it. “It’s darker than I imagined but I quite like it”. She offered to dye it lighter but I said no with a genuine smile on my face.

When I got home, I went into the shower and washed it with dish wash liquid, twice, to no avail. Finally, I decided I really liked it but I will probably try to do it myself the next time.

This is my newly retired husband and I, enjoying a meal out for the first time in a year? Teddy had been planning a staggered retirement for a few years – he may work part-time or contract but is having a much deserved break for a couple of months. We are treading warily around each other and I am trying out the new sweeter Kerry. Somedays it works!

PS I am in soft focus in the shot above but it isn’t a Kardashian Kaper – just a crappy old cell phone.

PPS In the first photo it looks like my right foot is on the wrong way (like an adjustable Barbie doll) – that is the leg/foot I had surgery on and it is wonky (clinical term).

      1. Thank you too, Kerry! Always of interest getting news from the “outer space”. 😉 Here on the not so bright site (only five kilometers from the border to the Czech Republic, but without any politically engaged contacts) one sometimes is feeling like in a desert. Lol xx

      2. What an interesting place to live in! When I lived in Europe it was still eastern Europe so I haven’t had the chance to travel to the Czech Republic. My uncle went on a motorbike trip to what was Czechoslovakia in the 1960s – so cool!

      3. Great, the 1960s were a great time, i think. The Czech Republic is wonderful, but here they cant loose the mood of the Iron Curtain. I always call our villages “The Banlieus of Prague”. Lol xx

      4. A few years ago we had a visit from relatives from Minneapolis. They wanted to explore the roots of their ancestors. When they arrived here, almost no one spoke English and we explained that Prague is only 100 km away, they wouldn’t believe it. Somehow they felt like they were in Antarctica. Lol

      5. There are probably more people who speak English in Antarctica than your village! Houston is bilingual – I keep getting Covid-19 messages in Spanish because my ethnicity is Hispanic! Mi Espanol es Malo….

      6. For sure. Here the language is not really German. Its a mixture of former slavic languages, and the dialect itself sounds like a dog’s barking. Lol Oh, Spanish is great! 😉 Love all languages from countries with better weather conditions like here. Lol Have a beautiful weekend! Michael

      7. That sounds like a fantastic language – a little like Klingon, perhaps?? I love Spanish too and that Latinos are so kind about my awful accent. In a remote part of the Yucatan of Mexico, I was perplexed by the menu which was in the local language (Mayan derivative) and French. No idea what I ate…

  3. You look lovely!! Love a bit of broken doll about the feet! Congrats to Teddy on his retirement!! Hope he doesn’t get under your feet too much 😜

    1. I sent him away and he is now in Nevada. 😍 Thank you for your kind comment – I like the idea of a broken doll. I remember a foot specialist looked at my feet and said in horror “What’s wrong with your feet???” Isn’t that his job?

    1. Thank you so much! Keep your fingers crossed that the softer Kerry stays around a bit longer and the inner fishwife is locked away…
I managed not to get annoyed at my psychiatrist for yet again forgetting to my ANTI-ANXIETY medication and was kind to the new girl at the pharmacy who told me my doctor wouldn’t give me anymore (not true). Inside my head was a rather interesting internal explosion but I remained polite. You know I will eventually implode and it will be a cracker! These Irish/Mexican genes can’t be held down indefinitely. 😂

  4. You look smashing, Kerry, and I love your floral dress paired up with a denim jacket. I treated myself today too and finally ordered online (as the shops in Ireland are still closed) a nice denim jacket. I have lots of lovely summer dresses with short sleeves, but as you know the weather is always too cold to wear them and that’s where the denim jacket comes in! Congratulations to your husband on his retirement; I wish him a happy retirement filled with fun and happiness. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day. Aiva 🙂 xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Aiva! My mum frequently used the term smashing so that brought a wee tear to my eye. Curiously enough, I was just about to write a post about weather. Our temperature has gone from almost 90 to 68 overnight. Usually we have to wear jackets over dresses because of the air con in restaurants. I have sent my husband to Nevada and he is having fun with photographs. Today his old boss phoned him about contract work…definitely a staggered retirement. I adore my various denim jackets, so I hope you have fun wearing yours! K x 💝

    1. Thank you so much, querida amiga! My natural hair color is dark (with lots of gray) so it feels nice. Only had compliments so far – yay!
      I am an Irish/Mexican mix – I can’t always go with the flow! 💥

    1. Thank you, Tanja. I have had a lot of compliments in the street so I think it must suit my complexion better than the faded blonde. To be honest, I rely on other’s opinions about hair/clothes – not that confident. K x

  6. Hello love,

You look fabulous as always! What is it with us and having crazy hair appointments? You can try a purple shampoo to help pull some of the red out and baking soda in dish soap is the trick… but it will dry your hair out. So follow up with a good moisturizer. 😍

    1. Hello You! It has been so long since I have heard from you – hope all is well. Thank you for the compliment – my hair has continued to look good so I think I will go back to the same colorist. K x

      1. I’m a stranger I know. It’s been a rough year with getting the virus (3 not so great months), changing jobs and buying a new house. But, I plan to start writing again soon. 💗

      2. Oh my goodness, you have had a terrible year. So sorry you had the long haul virus. Two of my family members died of Covid-19 and yet still people didn’t take it seriously.
With a new job and a new house, it sounds like life is looking up for you. I wish you health and happiness. K x
